Greater safety for TYVA Energie’s lithium batteries thanks to Pik0done, new BMS firmware version

Pik0done, is the French regional touch which captures several years of development by our Engineering Office to end up with a new BMS (Battery Management System) firmware version. The firmware is the most important function of a lithium battery as it ensures its safety. Read more about the backstage and the new functionalities of this firmware version.

More seriously, here are the main features of our new BMS firmware version:

 

Performance:

  • SOA (Safe Operating Area),
  • SOC (State Of Charge),
  • SOH (State of Health),
  • SOP (State of Power),
  • Management of IMD and IMR for charging and discharging battery phases,
  • ACBA (Advanced Cell Balancing Algorithm) that allows you to choose the balancing phase (charge, discharge or stand-by).

Communication:

  • Integrated Bootloader,
  • CAN BUS 2.0 B J1939 compliant,
  • 2 CAN BUS (1 internal + 1 external),
  • BLE 4.2.

Safety:

  • 17 errors detection,
  • Watchdog,
  • Recovery mode,
  • BMS status on control LED on GPIO,
  • GPIO interlock function,
  • Welded contactor checking (PDU lock).

Intelligence & smart functions:

  • PNFA (Perturbation Numeric Filtering Algorithm) numeric filtering of cell voltage and battery temperature measurement disturbances,
  • 88 editable parameters for battery mapping,
  • Datalogger with SD card or internal memory recording the latest battery events,
  • Up to 8 batteries parallelization with external TG8P (TYVA GATE 8P) gateway,
  • Choice of single or double channel PDU,
  • Regeneration allowed,
  • Configurable smart pre-charge: length and power,
  • Choice of charging and discharging channels via CAN BUS,
  • Low voltage function to avoid battery deep discharge,

The complete range of lithium batteries TYVA Moduloo Ax has been certified UN 38.3

UN 38.3? What is it? As you surely know, lithium batteries are classed as dangerous goods and are to be shipped with a few rules of caution. For this purpose, the United Nations defined a number of security checks called Tests UN 38.3. As security is essential to us along with providing our customers a simplified, fast and cost-effective transport; we decided to have our full Moduloo Ax range certified. Read more below!

UN 38.3 certification

In order to be carried safely by road, sea or air, lithium batteries have to pass section 38.3 of the United Nations Manual of Tests and Criteria, which includes the following controls:

T1: Altitude simulation
T2: Thermal test
T3: Vibration
T4: Shock
T5: External short circuit
T6: Impact / crush test
T7: Overcharge
T8: Forced discharge

The full range of batteries Moduloo Ax, available in several sizes and density has successfully passed all the tests and has been certified in April 2021.

Safe, fast and cost-effective – choose the Moduloo Ax range

 

UN 38.3 certification is a prerequisite for the transportation of lithium batteries regardless of the mode of transport. But this certification can significantly delay a project because of its cost and time required to complete all tests.

Packing instructions of TYVA Energie’s lithium batteries

 

Issuing the UN 38.3 certificate is not the only thing to take into consideration while transporting lithium batteries. Depending on the quantity and power of the batteries, packing instructions may differ.
